A Friday Softball

It's the end of the week and you're on your final brain cell, so here's an easy question to answer. Which of these queer news items from the last several days am I making up?

1.  Astute, trailblazing, imperfect former Congressman Barney Frank died at 86.

2.  Tennis legend Billie Jean King graduated with the college degree she began in 1961.

3.  The Colorado Supreme Court ordered Children's Hospital Colorado to resume gender-affirming medical care for minors.

4.  Liberace's ghost testified before Congress on the need for every American to have their own ballroom.

Full-Court Press

On this Transgender Day of Visibility, the Supreme Court decided free speech trumps queer kids' right to be themselves.

The justices sided 8-1 with a Christian counselor who claimed Colorado's law banning conversion therapy violated her First Amendment right to tell gay and trans youth that they're going to spend eternity in the fires of hell. (Okay, I presume she didn't put it that way.)

This means that the bans on conversion therapy enacted by bunches of states are up in the air. So brace yourself for the return of "Christian" therapy aimed at changing teens' sexual orientation or gender identity. To be followed by guilt, depression, and suicidal ideation.

On the upside, we all know of cases where a gay kid goes to conversion camp and meets his first boyfriend.

Centennial Pride

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a law this week ensuring that even if the Supreme Court reverses its Obergefell decision, marriage equality will still be legal in the Centennial State.

Polis, a Democrat and an out gay man, is himself in a same-sex marriage. It's only natural he wants to guarantee every LGBTQ Coloradan has the same opportunity he did to watch Aunt Bertha sprain her back doing the Chicken Dance.

Lauren in Trouble?

Rep. Lauren Boebert, the Colorado conservative firebrand and family-values hypocrite, recently switched districts to run in one that's more reliably Republican.

But in last week's straw poll in her new district, Boebert came in fifth out of nine Republican candidates.

Oh dear. Perhaps the accusations of being a carpetbagger have stuck. Or perhaps the video of her with her date at a Denver theater during a September performance of "Beetlejuice" was a grope too far.
